TEAS Math Practice Test: 38 Questions, 57 Minutes, Calculator Included

TEAS 7 math is 38 questions in 57 minutes — 34 scored, 4 unscored — and it comes with a four-function calculator built into the exam screen. That's the most generous per-question time on the test (90 seconds each), which tells you what the section is really checking: not arithmetic speed, but whether you can set a problem up correctly.

Two sub-areas, published counts

ATI's blueprint splits the 34 scored items into numbers and algebra (18) and measurement and data (16). Numbers and algebra is fractions, decimals, percents, ratios and proportions, rates, solving equations, and word problems — the classic "a patient receives 1,500 mL over 8 hours" setup. Measurement and data covers unit conversions (metric and standard), geometry basics like perimeter, area and volume, and reading tables, charts and graphs, including means, medians, modes and ranges.

Healthcare framing is everywhere — dosage-style proportions, intake totals, weight conversions at 2.2 lb per kg — because that's the population the exam screens. If you set up proportions cleanly, half the section is already yours.

The calculator is a trap if you let it be

Four functions: add, subtract, multiply, divide. No fraction key, no percent key, no memory. That means the exam still tests whether you know that "45 is 60% of what number" means dividing by 0.6 — the calculator only saves you the long division afterward. Candidates commonly report losing time by reaching for the calculator on problems that are faster by hand (25% of 84) and by not reaching for it on the multi-step decimals where it shines.

Fill-in-the-blank changes the game

Math is where fill-in-the-blank items concentrate: no options, you type the number. Backsolving from answer choices — the oldest test-taking trick — is unavailable there.
